In welcoming the first patients to use the brand-new, £18.8 million operating theatre complex at the Alexandra Hospital, Rachel said:
“I’ve long said the Alex has a bright future ahead of it and this latest multi-million-pound investment in our hospital is clear proof of that.
“I was able to visit the Alex whilst the theatres were under construction, and it was impressive to see the purpose-built extension to the hospital and how the Alex is still able to grow.
“Huge progress has already been made in tackling the elective care backlogs. The new operating theatre complex will help to tackle the backlogs even further and ensure patients receive their treatment more quickly.
“As my Long-Term Plan for the Delivery of Health and Social Care makes clear, I will continue to fight for more investment in the Alex and the return of a maternity and children’s service.”
This is one of a number of recent investments in the Alex which also includes a £3.9 million expansion of endoscopy services, a brand-new Breast Imaging Unit, state-of-the-art robot-assisted surgery and the return of the Garden Suite.
