Rachel has warned that, in order for the Labour Government to reach its new housebuilding target, they will have to build on the green belt in Redditch and the Villages.
Under the new mandated target for Redditch Borough Council, an extra 343 homes will have to be built - a 239% increase on the previous target. In Wychavon, an extra 485 homes will have to be built every year - a 99% increase on the previous target.
Rachel said:
"Before the election I warned that Labour were planning to build on the green belt and I was shouted down by Labour members and supporters. Well, to hit the new housing targets mandated by the government, there's no question that Labour will have to build on the green belt.
"Whilst we do need more housing (and to reduce net migration at the same time), I've always said we need to build on brownfield sites first and boost densification in our cities and urban areas.
"We also need confirmation from Labour that they will ensure the infrastructure is in place to support the number of houses they want to be built."
