Rachel has welcomed new figures which show an extra 231 police officers have been recruited in West Mercia.
It’s part of the Government’s unprecedented drive to recruit 20,000 additional police officers by March 2023.
In England and Wales, more than 16,700 additional police officers have joined the police since April 2020 as part of the Government’s pledge to get more police officers on our streets.
These figures mean that the government has met 84% of that target and is well on the way to recruiting 20,000 new officers by March.
And, as part of the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia’s budget for the year ahead, 40 additional officers will be recruited on top of the Government’s recruitment drive. This increase will take West Mercia police officer numbers to their highest on record.
Rachel said:
“There are now more police on our streets than when I was first elected – another promise that I’m delivering on.
“These extra police officers will bolster efforts to drive down crimes like burglary and neighbourhood offences, return to common sense policing and make our communities feel safer and stronger.”
