The green light has been given for plans to build a new Police and Fire Hub in the heart of Redditch.
West Mercia Police and Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) are working together to bring a new combined hub to the town.
The Hub will be built to better support the people they serve by placing emergency services in the heart of Redditch, ensuring better value for taxpayers’ money and enabling emergency services to work more closely together.
Now the plans have been approved, building contractor Speller Metcalfe will construct the facility to the tune of £17.6 million with the cost of the project being met by PCC (64.05%) and HWFRS (35.95%).
Rachel Maclean, MP for Redditch, said:
“It’s great to see plans for the new Police and Fire Hub in Redditch have been given the green light and a construction company has been appointed.
“Our police need a fit-for-purpose station, especially as our Police and Crime Commissioner and the Government continue to recruit more officers. And by moving into a joint hub with the fire service, it will not only ensure better value for taxpayers’ money, but it will also strengthen joint responses to emergencies. A win-win for residents!
“The construction of this new combined hub also paves the way for the digital manufacturing and innovation centre to be built on the site of the current police station as part of our £16.6 million Town Deal.”
