“Following the Future of Acute Hospital Services in Worcestershire Review in 2017, three pieces of land were identified as being surplus to the Acute Trust’s requirements.
“We’ve known for 5 years that these plots of land would be sold, which is why, through my Alex Working Group meetings, I’m kept up-to-date on any developments regarding the sale of these plots of land.
“I met with the Trust again recently and sought a number of assurances. The Trust have told me there are no further plots of land at the Alex which they intend to sell. They have also assured me that the sale and development of the land won’t impact any of their plans for the delivery of services at the Alex.
“I have also been promised there will be absolutely no net loss of parking spaces for patients, visitors or staff as a result of the land sales and additional parking will be put in before any current parking spaces are lost.
“The money from this sale will be directly reinvested back into the Alex and will support the long waited major investment in the future of the Alex we have all been promised. I’m sure this is something we can all welcome.
“This is an incredibly important point to make. This further development does not impact, in anyway, my campaign to return a maternity and children’s service to the Alex.
“This land sale would not prevent the Alex from expanding in the future. Quite clearly the Alex can still continue to expand. A brand new breast imaging unit – a purpose-built extension to the Alex – has just opened, and the multi-million pound brand new operating theatre complex will also be an extension to the hospital.
“As I’ve always said, the Alex has a bright future ahead of it, with the investment it needs and deserves on its way.”
