Rachel has visited an industry-first global packaging research and development and innovation centre in Redditch.
Last Friday (January 12th), Rachel was taken on a tour of DS Smith’s new ‘R8’ facility.
DS Smith is a leading provider of sustainable packaging solutions, paper products and recycling services worldwide.
The industry-first facility, which opened in October 2023, includes a 4,000m2 pilot hall, four laboratories, conditioning chambers, an ideation and design studio, prototyping areas, and collaboration spaces.
As well as being the home of DS Smith’s Innovation and R&D teams, the facility is intended to spearhead research in manufacturing, maximising on the growing demand for sustainable packaging, and the innovation needed to deliver it.
Rachel said:
“I often tell people that Redditch is home to world-leading and successful businesses, but because they're tucked away on vast industrial estates in our town, they often go unnoticed by local residents.
“That's why, ever since I was first elected, I've shone a light on these businesses to demonstrate that Redditch certainly packs a big punch on the world stage.
“DS Smith’s new Global Packaging Research and Development and Innovation Centre is a clear example of that. This is an industry-first facility, and it’s here in Redditch. We’re a great place to do business and I’ll make sure that remains the case.”
