Rachel has once again joined forces with a Redditch health campaigner to make the case to local health bosses to return a maternity and children’s service to the Alexandra Hospital.
Yesterday (March 26th), Rachel and Kirsty Southwell met with the new Chief Executive of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Glen Burley.
At their meeting, the first they’ve held with the new Chief Executive, they discussed their campaign to return a maternity and children’s service to the Alex.
Building on the success of securing the return of the Garden Suite Chemotherapy Unit to the Alex, Rachel is continuing the fight to ensure Redditch’s hospital is once again a place where women can give birth and where children, no matter their illness or injury, can be treated.
Rachel has previously published comprehensive and realistic plans which sets out how she believes local health bosses can return these services.
Rachel said:
“With record NHS funding, more healthcare staff working for the Acute Trust than when I was first elected, and with the Three Counties Medical School to train NHS doctors locally, I believe the Acute Trust should look again at providing a maternity and children’s service at the Alex.
“Following our meeting, the new Chief Executive can be in no doubt about the services residents want to be provided at the Alex. Kirsty eloquently put the concerns and worries of local parents to Glen - making sure that their voices were heard.
“I’ve always believed in the art of the possible, and we will continue to make the case for these services to be returned to the Alex. Our conversations with the Trust won’t stop here as we won’t rest until a maternity and children’s service is provided at the Alex once again.”
