In response to concerns about crime rates in Redditch, and after Rachel conducted an extensive crime survey in the town, West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, John Campion, has announced an increased police presence in Redditch.
A total of ten town centre teams will be visible and accessible in town and city centres across the three counties. The locations of the teams have been chosen based on where West Mercia Police data shows the highest policing demand, biggest populations and/or footfall, and where an extra police presence will further help prevent crime and offer additional reassurance to communities.
Rachel has been actively campaigning to secure an increased police presence in the town and has made tackling crime one of her key pledges. Since Rachel was first elected, she has voted for the biggest increase in police funding since 2010, supported tougher sentences and measures to equip police officers with the tools they need to protect themselves. Rachel is a former Home Office Minister.
Rachel said:
''I am committed to ensuring the safety and security of Redditch Residents. The enhanced police numbers will enable us to better protect our community and address the challenges posed by criminal activities. This is a significant step forward in my ongoing efforts to ensure Redditch is a safe place for everyone.
"Earlier this year I met local policing Inspector Rich Field and discussed the feedback from my crime survey. The top three issues residents identified that the police should focus on include tackling anti-social behaviour, violent crime, burglaries and robberies. The additional police numbers will strengthen law enforcement in the town, deter criminal behaviour and will provide reassurance to residents and businesses, creating a safer environment for all.''
