The first 50 patients have undergone prostate cancer treatment using state-of-the-art robotic surgery at the Alexandra Hospital.
Rachel visited the hospital last year to see the work that was done to bring game-changing robotic surgery to the Alex.
She heard directly from surgeons who told her how robotic-assisted Radical Prostatectomy surgery can offer equivalent or better outcomes, less pain, shorter stays in hospital and quicker recovery for patients with prostate cancer.
The surgical robot arrived in September following the upgrade of an operating theatre and the first procedure being offered up to three days a week is robot-assisted surgery for men with prostate cancer.
This is one of a number of recent investments in the Alex which also includes brand new multi-million pound operating theatres, a £3.9 million expansion of endoscopy services and a brand new Breast Imaging Unit.

"It's great to see the first patients benefitting from state-of-the-art robotic surgery at the Alex.
"I remember a time when the Trust told me we wouldn’t be getting robot-assisted surgery. Now look where we are. Anything is possible!"
