When I heard the news this week construction giant Carillion had gone into liquidation, my first thought was to get in touch with Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Redditch Borough Council, because I know this huge organisation is involved with many public-sector contracts. Fortunately, both told me they have not been affected in any way. I will of course continue to monitor the situation.
Last week the Prime Minister launched the 25 Year Environment Plan. The UK has always been a leader in understanding and protecting the natural world, but the environmental challenges we face are acute. That is why we are pledging to eliminate all avoidable plastic waste by the end of 2042, encouraging supermarkets to introduce plastic-free aisles, extending the 5p charge for bags to all retailers and issuing a consultation on taxing the most environmentally damaging plastics.
It is our duty to leave our planet in a better state for the next generation, with cleaner air, stronger protections for animal welfare and greener spaces.
