Rachel Maclean, MP for Redditch County, has welcomed new data which shows more than 96 per cent of households and businesses in the constituency now have access to superfast broadband.
The data, provided by the House of Commons Library, also found Redditch is one of the best-connected constituencies in the country, with average broadband speeds 28 per cent higher than the national average.
Currently, 77 per cent of residents have access to broadband speeds of more than 10Mbps. Ofcom regards 10Mbps as necessary for ‘decent broadband’. 59 per cent of households and businesses also receive speeds above 30Mbps, which is higher than 80 per cent of constituencies in the UK.
The excellent news for residents and businesses comes after the Conservative Government announced it has delivered on its manifesto commitment to extend superfast broadband to 95 per cent of the UK by the end of 2017.
Rachel said: “It is important in the increasingly high-tech world in which we live that households and businesses have access to decent broadband speeds. That’s why I’m delighted nearly every home and business in Redditch can access superfast broadband.
“Not only can residents stream their favourite TV shows and movies much more quickly, but having access to superfast broadband is vital to helping businesses grow, as well as attracting more high-tech firms to our town.”
