Following the recent poor CQC report into the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, Rachel Maclean, MP for Redditch County, has been working tirelessly to seek reassurances that the £29million capital funding has not been affected.
Rachel said: “I am also a local resident I and my family depend on the NHS and our local health services, and I was very keen to check on this point in particular.”
The Trust remains rated as ‘inadequate’ following an inspection by the CQC late last year, however the report recognised improvements because emergency care and medical care at the Alex and Worcestershire Royal had improved from ‘inadequate’ to ‘requires improvement’.
Earlier this week (Tuesday) Rachel spoke to Acute Trust Chief Executive, Michelle McKay, and, whilst welcoming the improvements made, especially by hard-working front-line staff, Rachel told Mrs McKay she expected better from her and her team on behalf of the people of Redditch.
And last night (January 17), Rachel met with newly-appointed Minister of State for Health and Social Care, Stephen Barclay.
Rachel added: “He assured me the £29million capital funding promised for the Acute Trust has not been affected by the CQC’s recent inspection. The Minister was also keen to relay the Government’s continued commitment to supporting the Acute Trust climb out of special measures.
“The £29million cash injection is a substantial amount of money and will go a long way in helping to improve services at the Alex and at the Worcestershire Royal.
“Along with my fellow Worcestershire MPs, I will continue to support the Acute Trust and the leadership team as we fight for better services and first class treatment the people of Redditch deserve.”
