PRESS RELEASE
Rachel Maclean, newly-elected MP for Redditch County, with other Worcestershire MPs, met with Minister of State at the Department of Health, Philip Dunne, yesterday (Thursday) to discuss the future of the Alexandra Hospital and health services across the county.
The meeting took place in London and is the latest step in Rachel’s promise to put local health services at the top of her agenda. Within three weeks of the General Election she has now met with Philip Dunne to seek assurances that the Government will follow through with promised investment into the NHS.
Rachel said: “It was made clear in the Queen’s Speech this week that the Government intends to strengthen the economy so it supports the creation of jobs and generates the tax revenues needed to invest in the National Health Service, schools and other public services.
“Once the consultation into local health services and the subsequent business plan has been agreed by the Redditch & Bromsgrove Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the £29million promised to the Alex and Worcestershire Royal before the election will be forthcoming to pay for new operating theatres and other improved facilities including car parking.
“I very much welcome this reaffirmed commitment – Redditch has lived through uncertainty for too long.”
Philip Dunne added: “I am determined to help sort out the issues faced by Worcestershire and I look forward to the outcome of the CCG meeting next month. We shall support the new leadership of the WAHT (Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust) and I hope that proposals will address the long-standing challenges faced by the Acute Trust.”
Rachel’s 12-point election plan included a pledge to hold Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to account. She is meeting with Trust CEO Michelle McKay this afternoon.
