During my time as your MP, I held the bus operators in Redditch and the Villages to account.
Undoubtedly Redditch’s bus service needs improving, and I worked with the Government and our County Council to achieve this. Under my watch, Worcestershire County Council benefitted from a total of £6,292,372 in funding from the previous Conservative government to support bus services since 2022.
The funding from the previous Conservative government helped the County Council to deliver their Bus Service Improvement Plan and establish a new Enhanced Partnership with bus operators.
The funding will also be used to help the County Council introduce Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) solutions. DRT allows passengers to request a bus using a smartphone app, similar to services like Uber. This innovative approach will provide greater flexibility and convenience, particularly in areas with lower demand, and Rachel wants to see DRT rolled out in Redditch.
As part of my work to improve bus services, I chaired the first cross-party Redditch Bus Travel Task Force meeting. The Task Force brought together representatives from Worcestershire County Council, Diamond Bus and Age UK, as well as Borough and County Councillors from all political parties.
On this section of my website you can catch up with the work I did to support local services which residents rely on.
